Elegy

Alto Saxophone and Bassoon

Written for the Xelana Duo for the 2018 Connecticut Summerfest This somber, lyrical piece is explores many of the timbral possibilities offered by this unique combination of instruments. The saxophone and bassoon share a broad common range, blurring the lines between the traditional roles of soprano and bass voices or melody and accompaniment. The title, Elegy, reflects the piece's mournful quality.
